Ella Raines (August 6, 1920 – May 30, 1988) was born a hundred years ago today. I've known of her since childhood without fully appreciating her great gifts. Brought to Hollywood by Howard Hawks, she made great films with Siodmak and Sturges and alongside John Wayne and Charles Laughton. Her career lasted about fourteen years (1943 - 1957). She stopped way too soon.
