Ryan O'Neal died today at the age of eighty-two. The images here are from the greatest film in which he performed. Though it was not the picture he may have thought he was making, and it didn't bring him the accolades he had hoped for, it has come to be seen as one of the greatest films ever made and it is generally regarded, among more sophisticated viewers, as Stanley Kubrick's finest. Ryan O'Neal's incarnation of the central character has much to do with its beauty and hypnotic power. It is not the only great film he starred in. Some of the others are: the Driver, Paper Moon and What's Up Doc? It seems he never achieved the respect he so craved, but there are many cineastes who dearly loved him and his work. He will be greatly missed. May his name be a blessing. RIP.
