My favorite of Coppola's four late masterpieces.
Lovely, haunting and deeply personal,
With echoes of Dreyer's Vampyr, intentional or not.
Kilmer as the most truthful yet surrogate for FFC.
Though Val's own ex-wife plays his wife,
The trauma is Coppola's over Giancarlo's death.
The boating accident that destroyed
Griffin O'Neal's life as well.
The scene where she threatens to sell his priceless
Copy of Whitman's Leaves of Grass
Is devastatingly funny and grim.
