Cindy Sherman’s new photographs bring to mind some iconic Hollywood stars shot years after their glory days and with the rear projection backdrops refracted, mirrored, overlaid and doubled.  Lillian Gish, her sister, Dorothy, Theda Bara, Zasu Pitts, Gloria Swanson, Paulette Goddard, Margaret Sullavan, Jean Arthur, Barbra Stanwyck, and Katharine Hepburn seem to to haunt these characters that Cindy has assembled for her glamor shoots.  Fame is definitely and damnably fleeting.  These are brave pictures, sort of defiant, that imply all sorts of untold stories from the old dream factory.
