This scene (the good Dale is trapped in the Lodge) from the Missing Pieces is referred to repeatedly in the Return and seems to me the most valuable of those excised from Fire Walk with Me. Not that I need for Lynch & Frost to fill in the gap between the Nurse taking the Ring and it ending up on Dougie’s finger until he is reduced to a golden orb and a pile of ash (though I suspect that they might do just that, in part or in whole.) All in all, it’s a beautifully made scene, as good as any in the completed film. Also, in a way, I think Kyle MacLachlan has never looked so perfectly handsome as he does in this discarded fragment.
