Charlotte's sacred relic, the pistol the late Mr Haze planned to use for suicide. The one Humbert just contemplated using on her before she ran out and got hit by a car. John & Jean mistakenly assume suicide for Humbert's intent. Later, he'll plan to kill Dick Schiller with this same gun; and finally shoot Clare Quilty, hiding behind an 18th century British portrait of a Lady, though it comes at the start of the film.
