Cindy Sherman’s latest experiment was to open up her Instagram account to public viewing. Among the many relatively usual sort of images one might find on the site posted by any other well traveled artist with her interests (such as pictures in a museum, friends, family, insects and landscapes,) there were photos that clearly constitute a new series of facial portraits, for which she posed, that she then distorted with various filters. One remarkable feature of these pictures is that however extreme her make-up, disguise and distortions, Sherman remains instantly recognizable.
