The longer two of the four scenes of last week’s part 12 set in the Hotel, where the Blue Rose Task Force stay while working in Buckhorn SD, bring to mind the Lodge and its denizens. The rituals and codes performed by the FBI agents mirror (perhaps unknowingly) those practiced within the alternate reality they seek to understand and possibly enter. Even Gordon’s choice of companion, with her blatantly presentational sexuality (beautifully and expertly mimed by Bérénice Marlohe,) emphasizes their remove from common human activity. It is as if their pursuit of unlocking the other world has affected their most basic human needs.
