Early (purported) Portraits
It
being the four hundredth anniversary of the great writer’s death it
seemed like a good time to look at images made either during his life or
within living memory of the man. These appear to be the best
representations of one of the premiere dramatic poets, of how he appeared. Setting aside all the looney
theories that seek to rob him of the credit of writing his plays and
poems, it can be kind of thrilling to look at the fruits of recent
scholarship and research about something actually worth caring for: poetry.
