Seven Films by Stanley Donen
Stanley Donen displayed certain visual tendencies in his work both in his musicals and his ventures into other filmic realms. Most of the films referenced above in pairs of frames from seven different films, beginning at the top with Royal Wedding, then Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, next the Pajama Game, followed by Indiscreet, Funny Face, Damn Yankees, and lastly Charade, are musicals, only Indiscreet being a straight dramatic comedy and Charade a comic thriller. From the beginning of his directing career, directing small sections of other filmmakers’ movies, such as Charles Vidor's Cover Girl and George Sidney's Anchors Aweigh, he showed startling inventiveness and ingenuity, as well as great visual flair.
