Thin Mar Oo decided that she wanted to visit the Gyuto Foundation in East Richmond Heights CA for her birthday this year. It’s a small Tibetan Buddhist monastery, temple and meditation center in the Richmond hills. To start the short trip, she, her parents and I went to her favorite dim sum place in Chinatown in San Francisco for breakfast and then drove to Richmond. On the way back, after visiting the Rose Garden and Indian Rock in Berkeley, we stopped at a Cambodian grocery in East Oakland. Along with the whole fresh jackfruit, dried shrimp and other South East Asian supplies, they sold statues of Buddha. I asked the owner and was given permission to take a photo of their family altar in the shop.
