The Elegant Mr Thweatt

Last Saturday's thirty minute life drawings of Derron Thweatt. I'm hoping I'll be able to do some slip painting on large handleless cups (like those the Classic era Mayas made) based on some of these.

These others are the three minute drawings done at the beginning of the drawing session to warm up.

Karen Lank as Mrs Jarley

Three frames from an unfinished video adaptation of the Old Curiosity Shop that was destroyed by an internet ransom virus.  These pictures show my sister, Karen, in the role of Mrs Jarley.  Today was the first anniversary of my sister’s death. RIP.

Newly Published Jack Smith Photos circa 1961

Some newly published Jack Smith photos circa 1961 from the Sunday night sessions with Francis Francine, Reese Haire, Marian Zazeela, Mario Montez, Rene Rivera, (same model different garb), Ronald Tavel and an interesting man whom I've seen in earlier pictures without being able to identify.

Life Drawing at SF Art Institute

San Francisco Art Institute, 800 Chestnut St, Friday 8 March 2019, a 3 hour session with model Sarah Menefee. I went because the Saturday session at Eureka Valley Rec was canceled. It was good to draw from an older woman for a change. Maybe I'll keep going.

Mary Boone sentenced for Tax Evasion

She'll be in prison for two and a half years, most likely minimum security (like Martha Stewart). I'm truly sorry to see this and find it ridiculous given Trump's unpunished mountains of tax fraud; but I figure she'll make interesting use of the time in the pen. I don't take a positive view of art dealers in general, but, for me, she is one of the few good ones.

I will always see her as I did, the last of several sightings, when I caught her peeking around the corner at me as I admired her portrait by her friend, Eric Fischl. For all her guts and confidence she has retained her humility and even some vulnerability. Good luck to her.

Stanley Donen 13 April 1924 - 21 February 2019

There he was, on the town, flanked by Sinatra and Kelly, seventy years ago, dancer, choreographer, director, cinematic innovator, all around problem solver, Stanley Donen, RIP.

Drawings of model Arturo M

Arturo wrote to me saying how much he enjoyed my drawings and asked to pose for me.  Since he lives thousands of miles from me in another country, he has been taking photographs of himself and sending them to me on the condition that I would not post the photos, only the drawings and so far I have kept my word and mean to do so henceforth as well.  I have been admiring his body for quite a few years now and would not want to jeopardize access to someone I love.
