Three Triptychs by Hieronymous Bosch

Reconstruction of the Ship of Fools Triptych
the Hay Wain Triptych
& the Temptation of Anthony Triptych
Hieronymus Bosch, circa 1450 - 1516

When I came upon these images of the reconstruction of the Ship of Fools Triptych the other day I figured it was worth posting and that they would best be accompanied by my other favorite Bosch Triptychs, the Hay Wain and the Temptation.  It seems to me that what so many commentators seem to forget when grooving on his hallucinatory imagery is just how fine a painter and draftsman this man was.  The colors are so delicately and perfectly harmonized, the brushwork and drawing so elegant performed, and the compositions so carefully orchestrated that these visions take on the character of the natural.

Antonio's eightteenth birthday present for Indio

CPR (CrazyPuertoRicans)
Latin Connection
Ron Rico
New York City, circa 1998

The premise for this sequence, called Four Way, was that it was Indio’s eighteenth birthday, and, after admiring his playboy shirt, Antonio, an expert cocksucker, gives Indio his present.  Intercut with this seduction is a simultaneous scene between Antonio’s roommate, Viper, and another guy.  Antonio proposes they see what is going on in the other room.  He invites him to a four way.  Once there they watch Viper and his friend fuck, then Indio fucks Antonio while the other two watch.  This marked the first time Antonio enacted the role of the bottom on video.  All of his previous roles, with Latino Fan Club and All Worlds Video (at least so far released) had presented him as an aggressive top.  This was very badly shot, at times over-lit and badly framed; but Indio was my favorite performer with this outfit (Big City Video) and having Antonio Montez pair up with him, this one time, was something of a special occasion even if incompetently recorded.

Cinefotocolor (1948-54)

1 y 2, Todo es posible en Granada

3,4,5 y 6, la niña de la venta

7, Estrella de Sierra Morena

8, Duende y misterio del flamenco

9, Doña Francisquita

10, La hermana San Sulpicio

I became briefly fascinated with this two color film processing used in Spain in the nineteen fifties as I was researching Edgar Ulmer’s Muchachas de Bagdad a couple of months ago and have been meaning to show some examples not directly related to his work in Barcelona.  I haven’t seen any of the films from which the above frames are taken but enjoy them as individual images where I may project a narrative to fit the activities depicted. Much more information on the process can be found at: http://cinefotocolor.blogspot.com.es/

This last picture, presented in four frame separation and the fifth combined, does relate to Muchachas de Bagdad.  It shows Gypsy Rose Lee and Paulette Goddard in a costume, makeup and lighting test for Ulmer's Spanish made Arabian burlesque.

There was a time when Angel chose to intentionally misidentify himself as a Venezuelan (to what end I can't say,) but now he has placed 100% MEXICANO on his profile, so I have consequently changed the subtitle at the top of the page.
