Charles Demuth's Social Life

Supposed Recluses such as Charles Demuth, I suppose,
aren't generally acknowledged to have active Social Lives,
but when you actually look at the Work produced by this,
I don't know, self sheltering frail little Queer, this Aesthete,
you get the Picture, you get another Picture altogether.

What one finds is that despite his suffering from Diabetes,
despite living in the same quaint brick House as his Mom,
the Sick Man managed to get out and about for some Time,
and some damned good Times, before all he had to live for
were some exceedingly sensual Memories, precisely recalled.

  1. Enchanting - every piece has a 19th Century Fin de Siecle effect, a watercoloured Toulouse-Lautrec but it goes even beyond that. Thanks for sharing.
