The pictures of the two couples seen above and below are based on photographs by the wonderful Wilhelm Von Gloeden, who spent his time in Sicily recreating the Golden Age with the help of local fishermen, shepherds, and their adolescent assistants.
Here we have two pairs of Luchadores Mexicanos de La Lucha Libre. Being wrestlers, they present their comraderie in a bold fashion and offer up their bodies for our general admiration. Too bad we are fifty years too late. These guys were stars in the ninteen fifties. One of these fellows, however, is still well remembered, even outside of Mexico. I mean, of course, Alejandro Muñoz Moreno, better known as The Blue Demon.
This couple takes a more anonymous approach, allowing us to only view them from behind, yet still proudly displaying themselves on this makeshift elevated platform of a dining room table.
