The Giftland Paintings

If I remember correctly, these are the paintings I sent to Printed Matter Inc. for the 1994 and 1995 editions of Giftland. The first group revolves around politicians and their consorts and how they were presented in the mass media. These pictures concern the construction of their images and how the codes which shape that construction have been refined from the time of Hitler and Braun to the (then) present of the Clintons and Arafats. The next year's group of paintings dealt with more personal and general cultural matters, such as the construction of homosexual desire in ancient and contemporary societies like the Classical Greek, the Post Classic Maya, and the San Franciscan (circa 1995.)
